About Me.

Hi, I’m Shelby Holmes a queer graphic designer and illustrator based in Long Beach, CA. With a background shaped by five years of design education and hands on client work, I specialize in branding, thoughtful logos, social media graphics, and event posters. My creative journey has also led me to launch my own illustration focused business, where I’ve connected to my local community and continued to explore personal storytelling through art.

Beyond freelancing, I’ve worked in the coffee production industry for a couple years now and though it was an unexpected path, it has been a rich source of inspiration. It’s influenced both the subject matter of my illustrations and my growing appreciation for the craft and complexity behind packaging design. I’m eager to dive deeper into this field and learn the behind the scene processes in order to create a functional and beautiful product.

What I Do.

  • Illustration.

My illustration work is a reflection of the vibrant, imaginative energy of my childhood. I’m especially drawn to warm, expressive color palettes and abstract landscapes filled with doors and windows which are symbols of curiosity and portals to the next big adventure.

Whether I’m drawing in the park, vending at a local event, or showing in a gallery, I’m always humbled by the honest, heartfelt responses people share. One of my favorite parts of the process is hearing the stories that viewers attach to my work and the feeling they get from interpreting it. It’s in those moments of connection that my illustrations fully come to life.

  • Design.

I’ve always been captivated by packaging specifically when I’m walking by grocery store shelves to beauty aisles and colorful beverage cans. There’s something magical about the way design and illustration come together to make something both beautiful and functional.

As a small business owner myself, I feel especially passionate about working with local creatives and collaborating with my community. It’s been an honor to help bring someone’s vision to life through thoughtful branding and visual storytelling.

  • Girl Boss.

Right out of high school, I launched Shelby Works , a small business rooted in creativity, resourcefulness, and DIY grit. What began with heat-pressing T-shirts on my dining room table has grown into a multifaceted practice that includes printmaking, fine art, rug tufting and now illustrating my first ever coloring book.

Through vending at local art markets, exhibiting in small galleries, and even showcasing work at John Wayne Airport, I’ve built something I'm proud of; a brand that celebrates growth, community, and the joy of making things by hand.
